“CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR VIKING SOUL CASK HAS BEEN RESERVED!”
After the fall of the curtain iron in 1989, whisky clubs began to mushroom in the Czech republic. A few of them have been instrumental and started to acquire private whisky casks. A good degree of cordiality and dram sharing between the clubs has been born. And even a special tasting of all the private casks that had ever made it to the country until then took place in Prague on September 26, 2014 thanks to great effort by the 12 Men of Tyn(e)’s chairman Martin Svoboda.
The email about the win in Highland Park’s lottery for a Viking Soul Cask arrived on July 10, 2018 into the email box of the «50OF5» Whisky Club. And they thought better than keeping the cask for themselves – they saw is as a great opportunity to share the cask among the club and have even more fun. With seven phone calls, the cask was distributed – and the basis for CMWS was founded.
The HP VSC cask of 2018 yielded fantastic liquid, and we decided to use the momentum and – while keeping the initiatives of the individual clubs intact – elevate the cooperation to the level where everyone from these clubs can take part in the joint private cask acquisition. It is always a lot of fun to start a discussion with another distillery, continue to cask selection, label personalization, distillery visit, bottling, importing and, finally, opening the first bottle from a new cask!
